http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/potd/2009/06/calochortus_superbus.php Isn't this flowers absolutely fantastic, why do I never see such things in a Nursery? And I did miss it where can one find such delicate blooms in Vancouver?
Dry climate bulb native to western North America and requiring a summer baking. Bulbs of a horticultural selection have been offered at local outlets in the past. During prior years bulb frames near Lohbrunner Alpine Garden at UBC have contained flowering examples (I haven't been there lately). Other gardens where specialists are playing with them will also occur in the region. Otherwise you can view them in the wild near here.
Vic... google Tigridia. I thought that pic was one at first glance. They are very exotic looking and you don't see them in everyones garden. May have to be dug up in the fall tho. barb
