Hi, my dad just brought me a plant for my dorm room, and he and I have no clue on the kind of plant it is. The top of the plant is dried out and dying, and I desperately want to save it because it's beautiful. Does anyone have a clue about the type of plant it is? It's approximately 8 inches tall and in a small pot. Also, it's branches are little pointy baby stick-like things that shed when dried out. The pictures aren't that great because they were taken with a cell phone.

    Thank you in advance.

Looks like Asparagus setaceus, (syn. A. plumosus), Asparagus Fern.

Actually Asparagus plumosa is the correct name. Despite the common name, it is a flowering plant not a fern. They are actually tuberous rooted xerophytes and do best in bright light and rather dry conditions. If they are put in shade and kept moist like ferns, they will not do well. Water the plant thoroughly once a week and allow it to go dry between waterings. Do not let the plant stand in water. Trim off the dead branches.
