Hello, My corn plant was over-watered, and I had to cut the only stem down to the cane (I hope those are the correct terms. I've read about air-layering, but I'm not sure if this will help my plant grow new stems. I repotted it, and the roots looked good, but I didn't notice if the ends had root rot. I'm planning on removing the new soil and looking at the roots just to make sure they are not rotted. If they are, I will cut the ends off to the white roots. I've attached a picture of the plant to see if it's worth trying to save. It was a gift from a friend, so I would love to save it if I could. I hope you can open it. If not, I'll try to send it another way. Thank you
The roots are probably still healthy if they were white and you didn't notice any rotting when you repotted the plant. I think all you can do at this point is provide the plant with conditions conducive to growth and hope it'll recover. I would not attempt to air-layer since there is no leafy growth at the top; doing so would probably cause more harm. Maintain minimal moisture level in the soil because of reduced demand due to leaf loss.
Thank you for your reply and advice. I'll definitely provide minimal moisture and hope for the best. Gina
