    Dear forumers,

I have been trying to identify a plant someone bought me here in Taiwan. I have not had any success even narrowing down what it is, so I am hoping someone can at least do that. I want to know how to care for the plant properly.

I have attached a couple of pictures to help but by way of description, here goes.

Size - like a small cat. It really looks just like a cat if said cat's legs were just randomly positioned as it lay on the floor. The pot it is sitting in is about 25cm across.

As I said, I live in Taiwan but I have no idea if this is a native species. It is a cluster of, I suppose you would call them, "fleshy arms". It is extremely hairy (gingery-brown). If you shaved the plant (I won't) the flesh would reveal itself as green and very firm. The plant does not "do" anything most of the time, but now and then unfurls one of the arms and a quite delicate fern-like leaf uncoils (sadly it has not done this for a while, so no pictures).

I hope this is enough to get us/me started on identifying this peculiar plant.

    Tyrlych,

You quite obviously know better than I, but I would wager you are correct.

    Thank you so much.

    Paul.
