I need your help with identification of desert flower

    Apologies for using the Stumpers forum incorrectly as I do not see any closer forum dealing with identification help.

    I took this photo of this flower near Canyon Lake in Maricopa County, Arizona on June 26, 2009 but have been unable to identify the plant. I cannot tell if it is a cactus flower or a flowering shrub.

    I would be grateful if you could help me. Attached is a resized image of the plant:

    Thank you saltcedar! I see the similarity with other photos. It does look like a variety of Agave.
