I just recieved a ponytail palm it is about 5 feet tall and I believe it need repotting. I live in Florida and was wondering if I should repot it or put it in the ground? I understand that they like a lot of sun and not a lot of water, so for either way of planting which type of soil should be used?

Your Ponytail palm (Beaucarnea recurvata) could certainly be planted out if you are in a zone 9b or even milder area of Florida. Sandy, humusy soil that drains well is suitable and decent amounts of sunshine. They are drought tollerant but are appreciative of some periodic watering during dry spells. FYI, the Pony tail palm isn't a true palm, but has closer links to the Agave family.

    Cheers, LPN.
