hello, my nieghbor has a rather odd tree. she is out of town so i can't ask her or get a picture of the tree it's self since it is in her fenced in backyard. what i know about it is these things

    1) it stands around 15-20 feet tall
    2) i know it is a yellow something tree i know the second word begins with a p.
    3) what i believe is a fruit is on it to describe them they look about the size of a coconut however the outside segments seem to fall off when ripe. in side there is a yellowish orangeish looking ball abut the size of a baseball the larger of these "fruits" are about the size of soft balls. other then these things i know nothing really about the tree except the root system is weird looking. it goes straight down in a circle. they are seperate roots but they grow very close and go straight down the tree. roots are maybe an inch to an inch and a half thick. if you know what this type of tree is pls respond to this thread. i want to know if it is edible and what the name of this tree is. thank you

Might it be Couroupita guianensis. Common name cannonball tree. I realise it does not fit your wording of yellow, 2nd word beginning with p.
However it does have fruit like a coconut that split open to reveal the fruit/seed inside. It also has many downward growing " things"
