I inherited this beautiful bush/shrub when we bought our house, and I have no idea what it is. Can anyone identify it for me? I live in Janesville, WI (nearly the border between Wisconsin and Illinois). This bush is just now blooming and will end in a month or so. I really appreciate your help! Clueless in Wisconsin! Tina
Welcome TinWes. Sadly, it is difficult to give an accurate answer, as your pics are a bit blurred. It looks as if it may be a Chaenomeles.See.... http://images.google.com/images?q=C...1I7SUNA_en-GB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi
Thanks so much! Yes, it is difficult to see - sorry about that. I was just using my camera phone. Your pics that you attached were very helpful and it does appear to very similar. I will check into further! Sincerely, Tina
This is the discription of Japanese Quince from Wikipedia. Your pics are a bit fuzzy but I keep coming back to this in my to mind. "Chaenomeles is a genus of three species of deciduous spiny shrubs, usually 1–3 m tall, in the family Rosaceae. They are native to eastern Asia in Japan, China and Korea. These plants are related to the Quince (Cydonia oblonga) and the Chinese Quince (Pseudocydonia sinensis), differing in the serrated leaves, and in the flowers having deciduous sepals and styles that are connate at the base. The leaves are alternately arranged, simple, and have a serrated margin. The flowers are 3–4.5 cm diameter, with five petals, and are usually bright orange-red, but can be white or pink; flowering is in late winter or early spring. The fruit is a pome with five carpels; it ripens in late autumn. Chaenomeles is used as a food plant by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Brown-tail and the leaf-miner Bucculatrix pomifoliella." Maybe this will give you some more info. barb
