I moved into my house a year ago and I have two shrubs at both entrances that when I walk in they have the most amazing smell. They are a wooded shrub with white flowers and have green leaves.
A year later the wood almost looks dead and you can see where the flowers use to be on then stem they look like little dead bells. At the bottom of the shrub I have new green leaves growing but all the wooded shoots from last year are all dead. ( I think).
So I would like to know. 1. What time of shrub this is? 2. If I am suppose to prune the dead wood every year?
Thanks so much. I wil also post a picture.

Or plant a more cold hardy selection in it's place.
