I've had this primula in my garden for very many years but never been able to identify it more precisely. Is anyone able to help please? The colour's not quite right. The flowers are a little darker and are slightly more purple, if that helps at all.
Just guessing here I think this is what we refer to as Polyanthus (Primula x polyantha), They are longer stemmed than the little cream primroses. Nice plants. http://www.yates.com.au/GardenCalendar/July_06/Polyanthus.asp Liz
Primula is the genus rather than family. Polyanthus are often raised from seed and sold as mixed color seed strains, in which case individual colors don't have their own cultivar names. Without knowing its history yours could be from a mixed color seed strain, a single color seed strain or a vegetatively propagated clonal cultivar.
