Hello My name is Michael, and I am a photographer who photographs plants from time to time. I would very much like to label them properly, instead of naming them things like purple flower, etc. I know that so much of this will be painfully honest to a great many of you on the list, but I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me identify the many plants that I have already photographed, as well as new ones I might not be able to identify. Here are the first few. Thanks in advance to anyone that would have the time to help me. It's nice to be part of the list. I'm glad to be a member. Michael
DSC02270 is Digitalis purpurea or foxglove. If I may make the comment, you have a huge piece of dust on your camera sensor -- in these images, it is on the left margin, halfway up (or down) the image. There is another smaller one a bit closer to the middle of the sensor.
the one in the far bottom right is a Tanzanian white poppy bulb, after flowering. they have this velvety purple tops, unlike the opium poppies, these have been made for ornamental flowers. the flowers have large black/purple thumb prints on inside of 5 white petals. i have no idea what the 'proper name ' is...
Usually called Oriental poppy (Papaver orientale). The white one might be 'Perry's White'. The one to the left of the poppy pod is Primula viallii. The various aster family plants may need more parts to be shown for anyone to be certain which of the many thousands of kinds of plants in that family these are.
Top middle looks a lot like Myosotis... A bit of foliage would be helpful... Is the first one an oxe-eye daisy? (Leucanthemum vulgare) And on the end of the top row... flea bane daisy... (Erigeron speciosus)
and #3 is probably Erigeron peregrinus, not sure if both of the Erigerons are cultivated in the garden.
It seems to me that images may be displayed (arranged) differently on different computers. Here is how they are displayed on mine. In such a case answers like: "And on the end of the top row... flea bane daisy... (Erigeron speciosus)" or "#3 is probably Erigeron peregrinus" have potential to create confusion for the OP. Hope I will not offend anybody by following Daniel's approach and attach my colleagues identification to the labels attached to the images: DSC02180 - oxe-eye daisy? (Leucanthemum vulgare) 261 - ? 267 - looks a lot like Myosotis 270 - Digitalis purpurea*or foxglove 286 - flea bane daisy... (Erigeron speciosus) . . . or Erigeron peregrinus 288 - Primula viallii 299 - Tanzanian white poppy bulb . . . Usually called Oriental poppy (Papaver orientale)
