i have some flowering trees in my yard,

    could anyone help identify these trees? they both have fragrant flowers and i would like to get more for my yard.

    #1 is Syringia of some sort (White Lilac).
    #2 looks like an ornamental cherry of some sort, but I'm not 100% on that one.

    thanks guys, very impressive and quick replies :) i thought lilac for the white one at first, but i will definately look into ornamental cherry trees.

    what would work for lilac trees that are very hardy? i live in western alberta.. i am in zone 2a

    Yes: Subgenus Padus cherry such as P. padus or P. virginiana. The other looks like Malus 'Royalty'.

    The folks at this place (not far from here) say most of their lilacs are hardy from zones 2 though 6.

    Tasha, the nurseries in Lethbridge will have all manner of lilacs hardy to your zone. I lived in Pitcher Butte for a while and that's where I got mine from....
