This summer while visiting amazonian rainforest, on the Pastaza river, we encuntered this plant; a large vine in blossom. I already know its aristolochia but Im not sure if it is aristolochia elegans becouse the pattern on the flower is somewhat different from the pictures I found online and it doesnt have zje yellow spot. Does anyone know which kind of aristolochia is it?

I'd be inclined to say it's one of the forms of A. elegans, myself. It could also be A. maxima.... I don't see enough of the leaves though, to be able to determine between the two.

How far down the Pastaza, just out of curiousity? Rio Negro, Palora, or further?

That would almost exclude anything other than A. elegans.

too bad. I was hoping it was something rare. I read online elegans is a pest that destroys other native plants in the scraps of remaining rain forest.
