Hi Glad to be a member!! I have a big crisis on my hands! My Kentia Palm lost 2-3 huge leaves approx. 3 mnths ago, it has recently started to grow a whole leaf and it is starting to open up and seems like it is doing alot better. I recently moved and had to relocate the plant, it was close to a lamp(but the plant was below it). I came home and found that the top half of the leaves are very dry/crisp, brown/yellow.......it wasn't getting the best light in this location I have moved it closer to window, and turned on a humidifier, and started misting it frequently. Does anybody have any other suggetions as to what else I can do for her!! Plant Queen
I suggest cutting off all of the damaged leaves and looking to make sure there are no insects damaging the leaves ( small whites mites, look for webs) then put a tray under the palm filled with pebbles. Keep the tray full of water and this will allow more humidity to the plant and mov it away from full sun and put in a semi-shaded area where it will only get alimited amount of direct sunlight. hopefuly that will help out your palm. if you do find insects then use some insecticidal soap or horticultural oil to get rid of them, use it once a week for about 3-4 weeks and that should be rid of it.
Thanx for the info, sure enough I checked the plant throughly behind the leaves and I found some tiny white specks and what looked like fluff. As I looked at the stalk I found what looks like scale insects. Anyways I cut the bad leaf, the new leaf seems fine so far. I gave the plant a through scrub down with a toothbrush, dish soap, rubbing alcohol and water to remove the scale from the stalks. Its also in a room with a humidifer. It already actually looks alittle bit better, is there anything else I can do to prevent this from happening again?
The trouble with so much of what's sold as "house plants", is that they often do poorly indoors. The best you can do is try to mimic it's natural habitat, which is difficult to do in most home situations. Cheers, LPN.
