My family and I were in the backyard today cleaning up after IKE came through. We had to drag a bunch of fallen branches out of the yard. I have a pecan tree back there and a redbud and a few others. So, i recognize those branches. However, I found a fallen branch that had small white nuts/seeds on it. I'm not sure which tree it came from. The nuts/seeds have a white waxy coating on the outside and under the waxy coat is a black shell. These nuts/seeds are about a quarter inch long. Inside the shell is a soft, oily nut and it looks like a pine nut although it didn't come out of a pine cone. Also, the shell of this little thing is kinda hard to crack. I need help identifying them because my dog has been eating them and seems to enjoy them very much! I am also wondering if they are edible. My daughter ate one after I cracked it open and showed it to her. She's just fine and seemed to enjoy the little nut as well. Please help if you can.. I know the pics are a little blurry but I only had my cell phone at the time. The first picture is a small twig that has the nuts/seeds on it. The second is a picture of the twig and a single nut/seed to the left The third is a picture of the split shell and the actuall meat of the nut/seed to the left Lastly another picture of the meat inside the shell
