This plant is covered in tiny bright purple flowers for 2 months in spring then gets a bit darker green and stays until the first hard freeze. It was growing in the ground, but I put it in the basket when I moved. It seems to be a hardy little thing....anyone know what it is?

I am 99% sure that it is a Geranium. However there are 100s of different ones. If you post a picture of it when it has flowers on someone may be able to give you an id.

yes, definitely a cranesbill geranium. there are a ton of varieties - leaf shape varies a little and the flower color as well (anywhere from light pink to dark purples and various shades in between).

it's hardy in your zone...if it's in the ground, that is. i'm not sure if it would survive winter in a hanging pot. i'd suggest burying the pot in the ground or you could even transplant it directly into the ground (which would definitely be better for it).
