I live above Boulder, Colorado at 7,000 ft. I have a south facing patio set with red granite pieces. The plant creeps in between the stones but has never invaded the Iris garden on the edge. They are tiny little buggers. Each around 3 cm in length from root to tip of blade. The stem is a reddish pink and fills the cracks between stones. They grow straight into the soil close together to create a red mat of plants.

    Thank you,

    Mick LaFleur

The plants you show appear to be seedlings of a portulaca, possibly Portulaca oleracea.

This variety will creep out with its red tendrils across the patio but never has produced any flowers. I will research the portulaca family.

    Thank you

This weed.... can be controlled by pouring boiling water on them, better than chemicals... plant wooly Thymus and enjoy their grey green hue, and lovely scent noticeable as you crush them with your feet...

May also be controlled by ingestion as it makes a nice salad green.

Is it a noxious weed? If not I don't mind the color. As long as they don't move toward the Irises!
