I'm hoping one of you can help me ID this Hydrangea I got from Heronswood a few years ago. I've lost the tag and can't remember what it is. I know it's a species Hydrangea, the leaves are similar to Oakleaf but it's not quercifolia. Any help greatly appreciated!
ID would be tough without fully open flowers - can you post another picture later on? It's not oak leaf (Hydrangea quercifolia). The leaves and young inflorescences are not what I am familiar with in Hydrangea arborescens, which is one other of the very few species hydrangeas native to North America.
I too would be interested in more information (pictures) this is also unfamiliar to me. I have several varieties of Hydrangea and grew up with many more in a nursery situation. Many thanks liz
Not meaning to whine, but that's a bad picture angle. I can't even tell if the leaves are fuzzy and I really can't discern the layout of the inflorescence. Which means that I am inclined to mention Hydrangea aspera as an option, but am shooting in the dark to nearly the same extent as if there were no photo.
Perhaps have a read through A Plantsman's Observations on the Genus Hydrangea from one of Heronswood's former proprietors.
Thanks for the replies. Sorry about the bad angle. After looking at the article Daniel posted, I believe it is Hydrangea sikokiana. Much appreciated!
