The blossoms on my newly (3 weeks ago) planted purple hydrangeas are wonderful, but there are occasional leaves on one or two stems per plant that turn blackish brown.

when watering, don't wet the leaves - especially if it's after the sun has gone down or if it's mid-afternoon and very sunny. i always make sure to water them at ground level - i get the hose right down there at the dirt and make sure to not splash the leaves.

you can't do anything about when it rains...rainwater doesn't seem to cause this to happen though.

Thanks for the reply...That's how I water them. They seem happy because there's new healthy growth, but still the occasional blackish-brown leaf, which I'm worried might spread (though it hasn't so far)...

are they on the lower leaves or the upper? or is there no rhyme/reason to their appearance?
