The following was received via email: My house in Maple Ridge has a huge, I repeat, HUGE monkey puzzle tree out front, which was there when I bought the place. It's healthy looking and has a nice symmetrical shape. I heard from someone that UBC Botanical Gardens was purchasing these trees. Is there any truth to this and if so, would they like to buy mine? I don't think I want to keep it but I would like it to have a good home. Regards, Patricia
Hi Patricia, To my knowledge the UBC Botanical Gardens is not purchasing any monkey puzzle trees. Generally only trees of known documented provenance are purchased by botanical gardens. Someone may be interested in your tree if you want to remove it. Moving a tree of this size would be difficult and costly and the tree may not survive.
A truly huge monkey puzzle would be far too large to transplant. These grow over 20m tall in gardens here.
