I have a very large Gunnera that will get to 10' high by mid summer. The problem is that it has grown a way out past the area allocated for it and is hanging over other gardens. I have to cut it back to a smaller base area. Do I take an axe to the horizontal parts that are now growing out across the lawn? I am covering the the plant for the winter now. Is this a good time to chop it back? Thanks
I'd wait until spring. Also sounds like it may be in the wrong spot. I'd think about moving the other features out of the way of the gunnera or even moving the gunnera.
