Our ivy that has grown in our front yard for 40 years has almost completely died due to the no water. I need to know how to repropagate our yard with the few patches of ivy that survived. Thanks for any help you have to offer.
Ivy is quite an easy weed to propagate by air-layering, or rooting in sand/light soil or just water. You can quickly turn a length of young vine into many plants, one plant every few leaves along its length. As long as you don't kill it by too much heat or too little water, you should have a new set of plants in a few months. As they grow, move them to larger pots or plant them out. The problem in CA was an extraordinary drought followed by government regulation against outdoor watering. This project could indeed save the species in your area. There isn't any quick fix for the long term except vigilance and voting for politicians and dealing with businesses who care for the environment.
