Hello everybody....I ' m a new user in this forum... I'm writing from Italy (sorry about my english!) I have a question regarding how to propagate Osmanthus Etherophyllus and Olea Fragrans that I have in my yard on DOlomiti Mountains Area.... Have you any suggest about it? Is it possible from cutting? I was thinking to propagate it using the most appropriate technique but I don't know which...please note that I'm a real beginner and I need all the information in order to do it... Thank you very much in advance and 'ciao' from Italy!
Hi there belluno, welcome and dont worry about the english (mine's probably not much better) Both do well from cutting and are easy to grow. The best method to use is to take semi ripe cuttings (using material that's not quite fully hardened at the base) about this time of year. pinch out the very top of the cutting as it is too soft and will rot and also the lowest pair of leaves. make a diagonal cut at the base and take off about a cm of bark on one side and then dip in rooting powder before potting into a free draining compost and maybe put a plastic bag over the top of the pot to keep up the humidity http://www.rhs.org.uk/Advice/profiles0800/semi_ripe.asp this site might be helpful good luck with your cuttings
Hi Greerish and Junglekeeper! Thank you for your answers, they'll be useful for me... I'll buy the rooting hormone and the appropriate 'starter mix" and then I'll try.... Ciao from the Alps Mountains!
