I have a 20 year old Camellia in my yard (probably 10 ft tall) which I'm quite sure was never cared for, yet it still produces gorgeous flowers -- I think it is generally healthy. It was planted right near another large, tall bush, and they were growing into each other. I removed the offending bush last week (which left a sticky substance on everything nearby it) so the Camellia has more room now -- as does our yard.

Since the side of the Camellia didn't see any sun or have any space, the lower portion is bare of leaves and has short under-developed branches. Is there anything I can do to help it fill in with leaves and restore that side of the plant? Feed it, prune it, sing to it? Leave it alone? :)

    All your suggestions are appreciated.

In the SPRING (not now), cut everything back shorter (though not below where there's anything growing), and you should get a lot of new branches and foliage.

Is that AFTER it flowers in the spring? I think it's set all it's new buds, so if I prune early it will reduce it's flowers... is that right?
