Hello, at my house we have streptocarpus that are over 25 years old. I was wondering what kind of care should I give to them apart from watering them? I've also realised that some of them have very week roots. Why is that?
Is there anybody elese on this forum that owns streptocarpus? My plant is loosing more roots. I really need help.
I used to have some in an east facing flower room on Lopez Island. (3 sides and the center part of the ceiling were glass) They did fine, but they were young plants. Some plants do have life spans, so maybe yours is just ageing. I'd take some starts to make sure you don't loose the plant. I would also repot it completely. Check the roots to make sure they are not infected with something and use all new potting soil. Maybe it just needs new dirt. I'm far from an expert and maybe others can give you better info. ;)) barb
Thanks for the heads up. I'll repot the plants in spring like recommended. At the same time, when I take the plant out of the pot, should I rince the root system since sometimes I have those anoying fruit bugs around them. Do you know how much time can these plants live?
Yes, I would rince out all the old dirt and use new. I have no idea on the longevity of the streptocarpus, but if they are anything like their cousins the African Violets - I would guess forever.
Ok, they are in the same familly and they relly look a like. So, I guess they have the same life longevity
