I can find many information for peaches, plums, apricots, pears etc but not much on cherries.

Do do the flowers grow on 1-year-old wood or can they grow on older wood?

    Thank you.

Are you needing to contain the size?

If not, follow general pruning guidelines from a pruning book. I find that they suffer consequences more often than many trees if cut back too much. And light thinning from the inside seems like the way to go. I find that weeping can be challenging, and the upright growers are easier to deal with.

I am keeping it relatively small

But my main concern is the next year's blossom. Will cherries bloom on new wood or can they bloom on older wood?
