Well, they are very popular here in BC. To be honest I've never ever heard of them needing to be watered. If it's a well established plant you might not have to. If it looks like it is wilting I'd give it a good soak, but other than that I wouldn't worry too much about it. If they are really young plant's I would water them only when they look like they need it too. Holding back on watering will make it drive its roots down deeper. Then you never need to water it.
