I'm going to move my sage bush and it's a little leggy. So I was wondering after I remove the dead branches how much can I cut back the branches. Will sage brake out of old wood? If I cut back by about 1/3 most of the branches will have no leaves. Any help will be appreciated.

I prune sage heavily every year, and it usually thrives. However, one year an old, woody specimen died suddenly of some unknown cause. Since then, I've been replacing the plant every couple of years with a new one made by tip layering the old sage. If you can wait until summer, I would recommend transplanting a tip layer rather than moving the old plant.
