    Hello all,

Would someone please recommend a way to protect some cotoneaster shoots over the winter in the Victoria area? I have space and skills to build a small cover / house if needed.

I potted some ~shoots~ from a bed of cotoneaster mid-summer into about 12 two-inch pots - I just wanted to see if they'd take and look forward to using them elsewhere in the garden as _great_ space fillers/cover.

A few months on they're doing pretty well, some new growth but they're still on the order of 1 to 2 inches high with only one stem (I anticipated this!).

    Thanks in advance! Sam

They shouldn't need any protection in Vancouver, unless you have a lot of deer or other browsers. They commonly self-sow and can be nuisance weeds.

All good, thanks Michael F. ... Deer, yes - but if I bring them up onto the deck, near the house they'll be both warm and nibble free.

FWIW, The planting locations are constrained to beds with hard-scaped edges, so invasiveness shouldn't be a problem. But thanks for that pointer. I'll keep it in mind, and hope that others find your caution useful too!

Thanks again for your reply! Sam
