Hello, I am a Canadian teaching English here in South Korea. I recieved this plant as a gift, but I do not know what it is or how to care for it. It seems to be a very common houseplant here, as I have seen it in numerous florist shops. Any help would be most appreciated. Frances
I also have one of these, picked it up at a grocery store in Northern Ontario. It's not doing so well unfortunately, any instructions on lighting compatibility and amount of water would be much appreciated. Update: November 24th, my little plant seems to be doing a bit better. It doesn't want hardly any water at all. I stopped watering it, almost two weeks ago, when it started to die and it's just now starting to look better. I will water very sparingly for the next month or so and see what happens. I'd say once a week, give it a small small amount, just enough to dampen the soil, but that's entirely a guess.
does anyone at all know what kind of plant this is? I would love to know how to care for it properly.
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it might be a wire vine, Muehlenbeckis axaillaris. Try looking it up and see if it fits.
Thank you so much for replying, you were close. Based on pictures from Google.ca, the one that I have is Muehlenbeckia complexa. Now I can take care of my little plant properly! From what I gather on the internet, they do like water and lots of sun.
The Muehlenbeckia species are a very confusing thing right now and I haven't gotten good answers when I have tried to find out about them. There were two plants for sale, obviously different, with the same name, both from reputable growers. Maybe Ron B. or someone else could help me sort out the confusion sometime. You're welcome for the reply, I'm glad I put you on the right track. Also confusing is that some species may be deciduous at certain times. Maybe it is going a little dormant and that's why it isn't needing much water? It is very tolerant of shade in the summer outside in the PNW. It is a nice plant, fast growing and easy.
Hi Dee, It is winter time here, so you may be right about the dormancy. I will continue to water it sparingly and see what happens, after I didn't water it for 7 days or so, it started growing some new shoots, so I'll stick with a 7 day watering cycle and go from there.
