Please save Dave Dave must not die (please see photos).

OK after reading all the forums and postings I think I know what is wrong with Dave (my Yucca plant), however Id like a few expert opinions please.

I think I have done 2 bad things to him over the winter months, they are: Over watering and light deprivation.

Now he is (I think) in prime position, the full length window is south facing and he can see all his friends (the trees) and I will only water him half a pint of water a month (should I put some baby bio in it to help him?)

He has been in the prime position for nearly 2 weeks now, so when can I expect to see him stand tall again, or do I have to do something else:

The roots (I think) are in good draining soil and are a light brown so I dont think he needs re-potting.

Im not sure if any of the papery yellow outer trunk cover need removing? Does he need some drastic amputation? If so where?

Joking aside this plant does have sentimental value to my wife, therefore Dave cannot die.

    Any help is gratefully received

Oh my, Dave looks very unhappy. I recently had a plant in the same family trip out like that (I thought it was a goner), but I chopped it back hard (I mean the stalk too) and just left it alone. Finally I am just seeing some new growth come out from stalk.
