Hello - Could someone ID this Honduran Fruit tree where the fruit (somewhat purple if I remember) is hanging from the branches. The color could be representative of young fruit?

    Thanks, Andy

Those look like Borojo (Borojoa patinoi) or a close relative, possibly Alibertia or Duroia of some sort... The darker the fruit, the closer it is to being ripe - they're edible once they fall off the tree and hit the ground. I wouldn't be able to tell you for certain without smelling the fruits - the three genera are visually nearly identical, but have very different aromas.

Thanks. It is so tempting to cross a fence and pick the fruit, but with two armed army patrollers, glad I didn't. It was near an out-of-the-way archeological site that wasn't much but the museum was worth the trip, as well as the fruit trees you have ID.

    Thank you so much!
    Andy
