does anyone know what is causing holly trees to lose their leaves? It usually starts on the lower branches and works its way up, I have noticed it on several large trees in Delta and Surrey. Can it be sprayed with something?
Can you post a picture or two of the trees? Leaf drop can be caused by a zillion different things, and without seeing the trees themselves we can't be sure.
Hello I think Douglas Justice answered a similar question a while ago http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=370&highlight=holly+leaf+drop its a long thread and Douglas I think gave a great answer here
One winter visit to Van Dusen Botanical Display Garden, Vancouver, BC just about all the I. aquifolium in the holly collection there were affected, with a carpet of fallen leaves around each. The I. x altaclarensis cultivars were not. Since I. aquifolium is a pest species in this region it might be as well to remove yours. Yesterday I found some that had sprouted on my front terrace and not been cut down yet were already getting over my head, now I have to cut up and grub out some fairly large, stiffly prickly plants. Many parks and other wooded parcels here have them coming up all over.
