I would appreciate any and all advice about my new holly trees. I recently had a landscape company plant 5 Nellie Stevens Hollies. This was 2 weeks ago and I just noticed that the top of one of the trees is dead. There is a cord tied on it about 18" from the top so maybe that killed the top. My question is: how will this affect the growth of this tree? I have read that topping a tree stops the tree from growing up & it will only grow out. Is this true? Should I ask to have this tree replaced? The tree is 7' tall and I want it to grow up not out. Thank you for your help.
