    Hi,
Have just read threads on the Hippeastrum or Amaryllis as they are also called. I have a question which doesn't seem to be covered here. I have one hippie in a pot which rewarded me with 3 flower stems late last year. I now see there is another smaller plant growing beside the mature one. I don't want to separate the bulbs, as the leaves are quite healthy looking, but want to know, do I fertilize the plant during this period? I live in Western Australia in a temperate climate. I have also recently purchased more bulbs, which I intend potting, is now the time to pot them, or do I wait for warmer weather? It is autumn here now.

I fertilize mine after the flowering. Blood and bone. I would pot them up. They are telling us to get the spring bulbs in now. In our weather it's not going to freeze them so they will be safe.

    Hi,
Just wanted to say that after all my agonizing over how and when to plant my hippeastrum bulbs, I have a 100% strike rate. Thanks to all who offered advice.
    Gidge.
