I recently moved my red hibiscus to my deck in its15 inch pot with the usual yellowing of some leaves from a changed environment. Yesterday I noted what I think are white flies on the underside of the leaves and some of the leaves had areas that turned thin and white. I treated with insecticidal soap made of water, canola oil and dish soap. Today there are only a few flies but I noticed that some leaf backs have these yellow-orange, raised one mm things stippling them. What is it and what do I do about it? Thanks so much for any help. Here is a photo of the white thinning leaf and the whole plant.
crgpedent, I had a long chat with a gentleman from a mid west university the other day about home made insecticide soap. Result was: In the old day our dish soaps had little fancy chemicals in them - just soap, so they were pretty safe. Now they add degreaseing agents, stuff to soften my ladies hands and so on. Long story short - where we used to mix 1/2 t soap to pint of water - he suggested half or less of soap. In your case, it's such a small plant just go buy a can of Safer Soap and use that. It really would be "safer". (no pun intended) ;))) barb
