Moved here 7 years ago, never knew exactly what this was, neighbor says previous owners were fond of Hawaii, probably a hibiscus, lots of tropicals and exotics in the yard when we moved in, unfortunately, the pre-sale renters neglected all and they eventually died off. This one is still doing well, just not quite sure what it is. Blooms are about 1.5 inches, reddish purple with a dark purple stamen that blooms outward about 2 inches, bulb never fully opens, this plant is about 12 feet tall. Leaves are single oblong petal / blade shaped. Blooms year round here in zone 10. Thanks for looking!

Yes!!! Thank you very much, that's it, definitely. Nice to know, finally, what it is and how to care for it a little better. Anyone else out there with one of these with tidbits to share? Thanks again David in L A!
