Hibiscus syriacus "Marina"

  1. I purchased this plant last Saturday. It is healthy and had many many buds ready to bloom. Yesterday morning I saw that 3 blooms opened up big and pretty. After work, on the same day, I saw that the 3 blooms had closed up. This morning a fourth bloom opened up and I just got home from work and noticed that bloom has also closed.

Am I doing something wrong? I have the plant in its original pot (I will plant it in the garden tomorrow) in a sunny location on the deck. It is getting approx. 6 hours of full sun. When planted in the garden, it will get 7 - 8 hours of full sun.

Does anyone know why the flowers are closing up after they open up? Thank you for any assistance.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. This is normal for hibiscus. The blooms of most varieties last only a day. The plants produce flowers in abundance for a long period though, so you will not be without blooms.

  3. Thank you!
