Our Jacqueline appears under stress. Purchased in November 2011 and did well with continuous blooming to this date. The tree is kept indoors with temperature ranging from 18 - 21C. Yellow leaves began appearing in April. The leaves turn yellow and fall off however; new leaves are growing but, again even young leaves turn yellow. We repotted the young tree with sea soil and are applying neutral fertilizer (kelp based). Soil, in our opinion, is neither too wet or too dry. Spider webs are not visible however, we have noticed some small black bumps/dots on underside of leaves....could this be a clue to ailment or stress? We would really appreciate any input. Regards,
Welcome to the forum. It could be Thrip or Whitefly larvae sometimes blacken when dead. If you could post an image that would be most helpful. http://lee.ifas.ufl.edu/Hort/Videos_and_Powerpoints/Hibiscus_Problems.pdf
Hi SaltCedar: Attached are photos of the leaves and the plant as a whole. Upon further inspection I see what could be whitefly however, there are not very many of them a few observed on some leaves. Most of the leaf drop has been in the centre of the crown and that those leaves at the bottom and top seem to remain healthy. Thanks in advance for you advice.
Picture that shows the infestation is a bit too blurry for an ID, so I'm only guessing at Scale or Whitefly. A systemic such as Imidacloprid or Summer Oil should give control.
