My hibiscus potted plant is having numerous buds but sadly many are getting cut or eaten away out of nowhere. The plant is in the open at my roof top and is getting enough sunlight snd air. The buds are getting eaten away both at the premature and mature stage. I dont know whether it is due to birds or insects but the cuts are smooth and at an tilted angle.
Hibiscus are very prone to bud drop, but it sounds like you have a critter eating them. Are the flower buds completely gone or just dropping off. Sounds like you are indicating they are eaten. I imagine there are a lot of critters that might do that, but what can get on your roof. It may be birds or insects. Maybe a rodent or small animal? I don't know what kind of critters you have in Kolkata. As for solutions, you can try to protect the plants in some way--netting, or move them. Maybe try sprinkling hot pepper powder or something else distasteful on the buds. (If it is birds they will not be discouraged by hot pepper--they are not sensitive to it.)
