Identification: hi

    hi , found some mushrooms when out hiking, growing near the bottom of a tree, i saw the reddish ring around the stem was wondering if it might be the gymnopilus species ive been trying to spot one forever, thanks

    Was it growing on the tree, or on other wood? Cortinarius have rusty spores as well, but grow on/in ground. Almost all (possibly all) Gymnopilus grow on wood I'm told.

    I've never seen any Gymnopilus species in real life before, so as a result, this looks Cortinarius-ish to me. If it was not on wood, do you see the remains of a cortina (cobwebby veil) on the cap edges?

    hey, thanks for the time. think ur right on that,dont think it was gymnopilus. however,i headed back out to try and find some and these might be it. also,found some others, and think i figured out a couple of them-the henof the woods, and bear tooth fungus the rest not so sure . I like the flying saucer looking one thought it looked cool, thanks
