Hi need help finding the name of a tree/shrub

    Hi, the tree has moroon flowers that are oriental looking. I have never seen another one like it. You can look at the pics. below. Thank You!

    If that species should have a dense fuzz on the leaf undersides.

    Looks like C.floridus to me. Calycanthus occidentalis has larger blooms.

    C. floridus var. laevigatus is hairless or slightly hairy beneath. C. occidentalis probably would not persist in New Hampshire.
