I have a row of 6 Hemlock Trees that are approximately 30 feet tall. They were sprayed with oil last week for wooly adelgid. I have noticed that the trees are thinning in places and seem to be dying. They will be sprayed in June with an insecticide and again in the summer. In the fall they will get another application of oil. Should I fertilize them now or wait.

I would not fertilize unless a soil and foliage test indicates the need for specific nutrients. A far better idea is to add composted woodchips (or other cellulose rich compost) to a large area below the trees.

If you are spending the money for spraying then ask your bugman (or an arborist) about their recommendations. Beware that lots of people like to sell fertilizer but never actually check to see why the tree is thinning or if fertilizer is the answer.
