Had a chance to explore my old stomping grounds at the north Oregon coast yesterday.

Found a nifty western hemlock that I called "Jurassic Tree" because it resembles a dinosaur in the forest.

Looks as primeval as most redwoods I've seen, if not more so.

    This was north of Manzanita

It's a 100' measuring tape so I can check the trunk diameters.

About 300 feet uphill was a spruce that I was curious about, with a 39' circuference trunk - 12.4' DBH. Only 120' of trunk left though. Looks like a whole top half broke off years ago. Big Sitka spruce.
