Hi, I know nothing about plants. I've had this plant in my classroom with NO light for almost an entire school year now. It's still sprouting new leaves, but a lot of its leaves have turned yellow and then dry and brown. It's gotten much bigger. When I first got it, it had white flowers on it, and someone told me it was an Easter Lily. Now I've looked up pictures of an Easter Lily, and it doesn't look similar to that. I'm sure it's something really simple, but like I said, I know nothing about plants :) I have NO idea what it is, and I threw away the little card that came with it when my grandmother sent it to me. I know it didn't say "Easter Lily".

I just want to know what it is so I can find out how to care for it, and what I should do with it when it leaves my classroom in the summer with me.

yep! thanks... i actually read down some more of the posts and found someone asking about the same type of plant. so i took the scientific name and typed it in for a search and found out it's probably turning brown on the leaves because of cholorine in the water i use. the water at school is probably pretty horrid, and i don't drink it myself.

so now should i cut off the brown leaves? i have no idea about that.

let the water sit for at least overnight before you water so the chlorine can dissipate...plus the water will be at room temp when you use it and that's a good thing (cold water or excessively hot water can shock the roots).

i keep a bunch of gallon water jugs filled and ready to use. i mark them in large letters with sharpies as 'plant food' so no one will drink any of it...and i sometimes actually do mix up plant food and store it, so there's residue...can't be chancing anything with kids around!

you can trim the brown parts off - i wouldn't take the whole leaf off until it's actually dead though.
