I planted (9) White Spire Birch trees about a month ago and I am not sure what is going on with them. I have mainly seen some loss of color in some of the leaves and some leaf drop from one tree. Some trees seem worse than others. The 'cone' (not sure of the correct name) on some of the trees has browned partially. The nursary gave us one extra tree that had really small leaves and buds. He mentioned "this tree may not make it but you are welcome to take it if you like". He thinks it didn't get enough water at some point. This tree has lost all the tiny leaves it had since I planted it. It looked as if it was really taking off at first and then the leaves turned and dropped. Does this sound like I am watering too much or not enough...maybe something different? I don't want to loose these trees!!
