(I am posting from utah) hello, I recently cleared out an area and put in a new planting bed. A norway maple was squished in by some other overgrown plants, now it is free and exposed. It didn't do anything last year, and its not doing anything this year (growth wise). I was hoping it would expand out but its just staying thin and tall.. Is there something I can do to encourage it to round out on the top? It is about 30 feet tall and very narrow. (see pic) P.S. Norway maples aren't invasive here... Most of the stuff people worry about being invasive isn't here, except tree of heaven. Thanks, Ryan
It will start to widen out as it gets older; young trees like this are very often slender like this. No need to prune it.
Did i make it clear that I cleared that area 2 years ago? I thought it would change in shape too but so far it hasn't done a thing. I guess i can give it more time but i want to have it fill out soon so i can enjoy it before i sell the house.
Shown growing wild in other intermountain states. "It is reported invasive in CT, DC, DE, IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, NH, NJ, NY, OR, PA, TN, VA, VT, WI, and WV." http://www.na.fs.fed.us/fhp/invasive_plants/weeds/norway-maple.pdf
