We have found this growing in a perennial bed in Victoria. Approx. 40 inches tall, small yellow tubular flowers, rhizome tuberous root much like a bearded iris. Grateful for any information. Thank you.

Ligularia looks close, but not quite right. I can't find any with compound racemes.

Thank you Daniel. We thought perhaps a Ligularia but unable to match up that root! I so appreciate your reply.

    Ohh! Perfect.
Been working to try and id this with no joy.
Thank you for solving the mystery Tyrlych.
    Other names
Chinese ragwort, Chinese groundsel, Ligularia tangutica, Senecio tanguticus

From China..related to Goundsel...loves wet places.. vigorous, spreading, INVASIVE.....what a pity.
Thought it looked a super plant.
Several of the good nurseries in UK are selling it...never seen it though.

Quote Devon Pond Plants....."Chinese groundsel is somewhat different from the other Ligularias here as it spreads steadily by forming waxy underground tubers. The foliage is deeply dissected and the pyramidal yellow flower spikes are quite open."

Daniel I picked up on your thoughts of Ligularia but couldn't find anything !
So much for www and my search.Humph!

Sounds like a perennial to be sold with a health warning.
Will it end up like Himalayan balsam?

So happy. Thank you Tyrlych for the ID. A number of us also had no luck in all our searches. And many thanks Silver Surfer for all the additional info.
