I'm asking for help identifying this strange fruit tree I found in the Philippines - Tacloban City to be exact. The tree is a rather large, normal size looking tree. I attached a photo of the leaves and the fruit. The fruit is oblong shaped and is about the size of a hand. I have never seen anything like it and I am wondering what it is and if it is edible. And help is greatly appreciated.

It looks like Teminalia catappa, false kamani. There are photos on this page: False Kamani - Kalani Plant Guide, where they say that the fruit is edible, tasting slightly acidic.
