Hi all! so for my birthday, my fiancee bought me a few cacti, one of them being a Rebutia minuscula a.k.a. The Red Crown Cactus. It is still in its clay pot as i was told not to plant it until the roots start growing out of the feeding hole at the bottom of the small pot, and I water it very minimally every three weeks; there are four buds growing out of it. My problem: about two weeks ago, one of the buds starting dying. It shriveled up and became discolored. then, another bud followed suit. Now im afraid, another one is starting to die. Does anyone know how or if i can revive it? Its such a beautiful cactus and i would hate for it to not be a part of the family! Let me know! Thanks!!
Weird, R. minuscula is usually reluctant to abort its buds. Rebutia need no or very little water to develop and open their buds, even plants without roots can do that. (They need more water to grow and form new buds, but that is another story.) I wonder if there is a bigger problem than just the aborted buds. Can you post a picture? Or is it a heat problem? Rebutia grow in relatively cold areas, and you live in California. (I have no experience of Rebutia in hot climates, I am just hypothesizing.)
Hey! Thank you so much for replying to my message. i'll post a picture tonight! Im living in northern california and it has been pretty cold here, thus far. Makes me sad.
